Kilkenny

We took our first road trip in Ireland. So far we have travelled by train, which is convenient and fun, but we wanted to try driving. It was a 2 hour drive southwest from Dublin to Kilkenny along a small 2 lane road. We were able to see many cute little villages and some beautiful countryside. Lots of cows, sheep, and horses. Kilkenny is a a lovely city. We took a walking tour and were amazed at the history. The Black Abbey Cathedral has been holding services for 750 years! We will be going back to Kilkenny in June for the famous Cat Laughs Comedy Festival with our friends from Seattle, Kevin & Lynne Hagen.

St. Canice's Cathedral & Tower

This was built in the 13th century in an Early English Gothic style. Craig and I climbed (and climbed and climbed) to reach the top where we were treated to a spectacular view of Kilkenny.

Kyteler's Inn

Kyteler's Inn Restaurant & Bar was named after Dame Alice Kyteler, a 14th-century woman who once lived there. In 1324 Alice was found guilty of witchcraft after four of her husbands died under mysterious circumstances. However, she escaped and left her maid to burn at the stake in her place.
